Police issue traffic guidelines ahead of NPP, NDC final rallies

The Ghana Police Service has announced traffic guidelines and road diversions for Thursday, December 5, 2024, as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) hold their final campaign rallies in Accra. The measures aim to ensure public safety and prevent potential clashes between supporters.

Event Venues

  • NPP Rally: University of Ghana Stadium, Legon
  • NDC Rally: Zurak Park, Madina

For NPP Supporters:

  1. Travelling from Adenta: Redirected at Ritz Junction to turn left through Aviation and UPSA, then proceed to Okponglo for access to Legon.
  2. Travelling from Dome: Routed via Haatso Junction through GIMPA to the University of Ghana.

For NDC Supporters:

  1. Travelling from Tetteh Quarshie Interchange: Turn right at Shiashie, continue toward UPSA, and turn left onto the Madina main road.
  2. Travelling from Dome: Take a left at KFC Junction on Haatso Road, continue to Wisconsin University, and proceed to Zongo Junction.

Special Arrangements

  • A roadblock will be placed in front of the NDC’s rally venue in Madina to control traffic.
  • Police officers will be stationed along key routes to assist road users and ensure smooth movement.

At a press briefing, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of the Police Public Affairs Directorate, urged both parties to ensure that their supporters maintain discipline and avoid provocations.

“We call on the leadership of both parties to cooperate fully with law enforcement to ensure a peaceful and orderly conclusion to campaign activities,” she said.

The police service reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and security as the nation approaches the December 7 general elections.
