Rt. Hon. Paul Boateng, a member of the United Kingdom’s House of Lords, has urged Ghanaians to adopt excellent leadership values over demagogues.
Speaking on Tuesday, June 18, at the Kofi Ohene-Konadu Auditorium for the 2024 University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) Annual Leadership Lecture, Lord Boateng stated that one of the main ways Ghana can continue to safely navigate through today’s world—which is smeared and confronted by multifaceted economic and social difficulties—is through excellent leadership.
Delivering a speech with the subject “Achieving the Promise: The Difficulty of Leadership! Transitioning from Rhetoric to Delivery: According to Lord Boateng, Ghanaians must embark on their developmental journey by eschewing demagoguery and instead relying on reasoned, evidence-based discourse.
“Given the scope and complexity of the issues facing our planet right now, effective action must be multifaceted and grounded in evidence, science, expertise, and the results of tried-and-true experiences—rather than relying solely on rhetoric, premeditated assurances, or naive assertions.
We currently live in a world where there is a lack of trust in all of our institutions, a crisis of competence, and a crisis of conflicts. a world full of people who believe conspiracy theories. There are many demagogues in our world, and demagoguery is valued more than reasoned argumentation.
“It is more crucial than ever for us to uphold the standards of professionalism and excellence in the provision of services. “It is now more crucial than ever to uphold and support these principles,” said Lord Boateng.
