Parliament resumes amidst controversy over anti-Gay Bill and urgent government business

Parliament will resume today, Tuesday, June 11, for the second meeting of the Fourth Session.

On March 20, 2024, Speaker Alban Bagbin abruptly adjourned the House.

This comes after a lengthy reply to the President’s letter suggesting against sending the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill—also referred to as the anti-gay bill—to the President for ratification.

The Majority Caucus filed a petition with the Speaker on May 3, 2024, requesting an immediate meeting of the House to discuss important matters related to government business, such as the 34th Report of the Appointments Committee approval and a resolution on increased financing.

In response, Members of Parliament were called back from break to resume work today, according to a letter from the Office of the Speaker.
