Parliament Approves GH₵68.13 Billion for First Quarter of 2025

Members of Parliament (MPs) have approved a total expenditure of GH₵68,134,674,527 for the first quarter of 2025.

The funds, allocated on Thursday, January 2, are intended to support various sectors of the economy between January and March this year.

According to the 2025 mini-budget presented by the new John Mahama administration, the allocations are as follows:

  • Compensation for Employees: GH₵16,462,828,490
  • Expenditure on Goods and Services: GH₵3,123,221,785
  • Interest Payments: GH₵20,691,523,500
  • Subsidies: GH₵45,507,080
  • Grants to Other Government Units: GH₵9,193,773,211
  • Social Benefits: GH₵234,703,983
  • Other Government Expenditures: GH₵5,293,248,499

These allocations bring the total projected expenditure for the first three months of 2025 to GH₵64,508,623,999.

In addition to these expenditures, the government has earmarked:

  • Arrears Clearance: GH₵2,345,505,925
  • Amortisation: GH₵1,280,544,603

This increases the total expenditure in advance of appropriation to GH₵68,134,674,527.

The budget reflects the new administration’s priorities, with significant emphasis on employee compensation, debt servicing, and grants to other government units.

This allocation is expected to provide financial stability and continuity in governance as the new administration transitions into office.

The approval of this expenditure demonstrates Parliament’s commitment to ensuring the smooth operation of the government and critical sectors during the first quarter of 2025.
