PAC Recovers GH¢12.9 Billion in Misused Public Funds

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC), working closely with the Auditor-General, has announced the recovery of more than GH¢12.9 billion in misappropriated state funds, marking one of the most significant accountability milestones in recent years.

Chairperson of the Committee, Abena Osei-Asare, disclosed the development on Wednesday, October 1, during a media engagement. She credited the achievement to strengthened collaboration between the PAC and the Auditor-General’s Department.

“One thing I am clear about is that what we are doing is yielding positive results. Per the work of the Public Accounts Committee, and with the support of the Auditor-General, we have been able to retrieve GH¢12.9 billion. There is a whole report on that which we will be sharing with the public at the right time,” Mrs Osei-Asare said.

The recovery comes after weeks of intense interrogations with officials from ministries, departments, and agencies cited in the 2024 Auditor-General’s Report for financial infractions.

Observers have praised the Committee’s rigorous oversight role, describing the development as a crucial step toward curbing wastage of public resources and restoring confidence in state institutions.

The PAC is expected to resume sittings on October 27, 2025, where it will continue scrutinising public expenditure and ensuring that state resources are used prudently.
