NPP rebukes NDC over request for serial numbers of BVR kits

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has come under fire from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for wanting to know the serial numbers of the Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits that are being used in the current Limited Voter Registration campaign.

The NDC claims that the request was made to guarantee openness throughout the voting process.

However, the Election Commission (EC) stated in a statement on Thursday, May 9, 2024 that disclosing the serial numbers to outside parties might endanger the integrity and safety of the electoral process.

In an interview on Friday, NPP Deputy General Secretary Haruna Mohammed addressed the NDC’s worries amd told them to trust the EC before the 2024 elections, calling the NDC’s request a lazy strategy.

“I believe the NDC is really incompetent in their job, requesting BVR serial numbers from the EC. Examining the CI, which governs registrations in Ghana, closely reveals that every political party has representatives in each of the 268 centres where registration takes place.

“These machines are on the exhibit, and it is evident how many are assigned to each centre. Additionally, I am aware that no political party has received the machine’s serial number during any of our registration.

However, I’m not sure if they intended for these serial numbers to be received. “These specifics, names, and details of these machines cannot be readily obtained by their agents again,” he said.
