NPP former MPs call for unity and rebuilding after election defeat

The National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Former Members of Parliament Caucus, Hon. Benjamin Kofi Ayeh, has issued a press release expressing gratitude to party members for their dedication during the recently concluded elections.

Hon. Ayeh commended the rank and file of the party for their tireless efforts, emphasising the need for unity and reflection following the election results.

“The dedication and perseverance exhibited by all are truly commendable. To our rank and file, we urge you to accept the outcome of the elections in good faith,” he stated.

Acknowledging the critical juncture at which the party finds itself, the former MPs urged members to set aside differences and focus on rebuilding the party. “This is a critical moment for us to come together, reflect on our strengths and weaknesses, and chart a new course for the future,” the statement read.

The caucus pledged its commitment to supporting the party during these challenging times, offering their experience and expertise to aid in restructuring efforts and the development of future strategies.

To further this mission, Hon. Benjamin Kofi Ayeh called for representation of the former MPs on the party’s fact-finding committee, emphasising the value their insights could bring to the table.

Additionally, he proposed engaging a professional body to conduct an independent investigation into the causes of the party’s poor electoral performance.

“This, together with the internal Party Committee’s findings, will help us identify areas for improvement and develop targeted strategies to address them,” he noted.

The statement highlighted the need to move beyond assigning blame and instead prioritise constructive dialogue and collaboration. “The time has come for us to put the blame game syndrome behind us and instead focus on constructive dialogue and collaboration. We must work together to rebuild our party and restore our reputation,” Hon. Ayeh urged.

The press release also appealed to security agencies to intensify efforts to prevent post-election violence and ensure a peaceful transition.

As the NPP navigates this challenging period, the former MPs remain steadfast in their commitment to the party’s rejuvenation and future success.
