The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has launched a nationwide exercise to retrieve pick-up vehicles issued to its parliamentary candidates for the 2024 election campaign.
In a letter dated December 20, 2024, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong directed all parliamentary candidates to return the vehicles to their respective constituency executive committees.
The directive follows an agreement made by candidates to release the vehicles after the campaign period, which officially ended on December 9, 2024.
The party leadership expressed gratitude to the candidates for their cooperation and commended them for conducting a peaceful and successful campaign. “We appreciate your commitment to the party and trust that this directive will be adhered to promptly,” the letter stated.
This initiative underscores the NPP’s commitment to transparency and accountability in managing party resources. The vehicles, once retrieved, will be handed over to the constituency executives for proper maintenance and use in furthering party activities.
Retrieving campaign vehicles is not a new practice in Ghanaian politics. However, past incidents have sparked controversy, with accusations of candidates selling or retaining vehicles for personal use.
By taking this proactive step, the NPP aims to prevent such occurrences and reinforce its grassroots structure.
The move is also expected to ensure that party resources are utilised effectively to support ongoing organisational activities at the constituency level.
This exercise highlights the NPP’s dedication to upholding discipline and accountability as it prepares for the next phase of political engagements.
