Over the past four months, the NHIA has disbursed a total of GH₵1.2 billion, demonstrating its commitment to timely payments and fostering efficient service delivery across the country.

In a statement issued on Friday, January 3, the NHIA highlighted this initiative as part of its debt-free strategy to strengthen healthcare delivery under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

“The NHIA’s commitment to timely payments is a vital part of its strategy to strengthen the healthcare system, build strong partnerships with healthcare providers, and deliver quality healthcare services to all subscribers of the NHIS,” the statement emphasised.

Healthcare facilities have been urged to submit claims promptly to maintain the momentum of efficient reimbursements. The NHIA also reiterated its readiness to engage stakeholders in addressing challenges and ensuring sustained collaboration for an effective healthcare system.

The statement underscored the NHIS’s expansive benefit package, which covers over 95 percent of disease conditions and includes more than 550 medications, reaffirming its role as a cornerstone of healthcare access in Ghana.

Recent disbursements by the NHIA include:

  • GH₵402 million for June and July claims.
  • GH₵335 million for August claims.
  • GH₵200 million for September and October claims.

“These payments demonstrate the Authority’s dedication to fulfilling its financial obligations to healthcare providers and strengthening the healthcare sector for the benefit of all Ghanaians,” the statement concluded.

The NHIA’s actions reflect a robust commitment to improving the financial stability of healthcare providers while ensuring quality care for NHIS subscribers nationwide.
