Next Gen Infraco Launches 5G network in Ghana, ushering in a new era of digital connectivity

Next Gen Infraco (NGIC), Ghana’s leading 5G wholesale infrastructure provider, has officially launched 5G services in Ghana through a partnership with global technology giants Nokia, Radisys, and Tech Mahindra.

The initiative aligns with Ghana’s Digital Agenda 2030 and the African Union’s Agenda 2063, reinforcing the country’s drive to establish a digitally advanced economy. Under the launch theme, “5G: Accelerating Ghana’s Digital Transformation,” NGIC seeks to empower telecommunications providers with high-speed, reliable 5G capabilities that will foster innovation and economic growth across the country.

Empowering Ghana with cutting-edge 5G infrastructure

NGIC’s 5G infrastructure rollout is designed to provide telecom operators with the necessary resources to deliver robust, affordable 5G services without investing in separate infrastructure. This wholesale model aims to close the digital divide and extend 5G benefits to both urban and rural communities, ensuring inclusive digital connectivity.

“Our commitment at NGIC is to provide the highest standard of 5G infrastructure that meets the needs of Ghana’s evolving digital landscape,” said Tenu Awoonor, CEO of NGIC. “This launch marks a critical step in realising our vision of a connected Ghana where opportunity reaches every corner of the nation.”

Strategic Phased Rollout

The initial phase will prioritise major cities, including Accra, Kumasi, and Takoradi, before expanding to additional urban centres by the end of 2024. By 2026, NGIC aims for nationwide 5G coverage, extending to rural areas and enabling telecommunications providers to expedite their service delivery while promoting growth and digital inclusion.

Global Tech Leaders Supporting Ghana’s 5G Vision

Through partnerships with Nokia, Radisys, and Tech Mahindra, NGIC is building a world-class 5G network with top-tier reliability, security, and performance.

Nokia: Mikko Lavanti, Senior Vice President for MEA Mobile Networks at Nokia, stated, “With our advanced 5G solutions, we are empowering NGIC to provide an infrastructure that drives economic and social development, ensuring that Ghana remains at the forefront of digital transformation in Africa.”

Radisys: Arun Bhikshesvaran, CEO of Radisys, highlighted the flexibility of Radisys’s open and disaggregated telecom solutions. “Our scalable, software-centric approach enables NGIC to expand rapidly while maintaining cost-efficiency and service quality,” he explained. Radisys’s open architecture approach enables seamless adaptation to new technologies, keeping Ghana’s network at the cutting edge.

Tech Mahindra: Emphasising the power of AI-driven analytics and IoT, Rajiv Vyas, Head of Africa Network Services Sales at Tech Mahindra, said, “We’re helping NGIC optimise its 5G infrastructure to drive transformative applications in sectors like telemedicine, logistics, and education.” Vyas further highlighted the partnership’s dedication to sustainable, secure, and future-ready network capabilities across Ghana.

Commitment to Data Security and Privacy

With data security and privacy as key priorities, NGIC has implemented robust cybersecurity protocols, including advanced encryption and monitoring systems, to create a safe digital environment for users. These measures allow Ghanaians to engage confidently in the digital economy as 5G adoption rises.

The launch of NGIC’s 5G network marks a milestone in Ghana’s digital transformation, providing the foundation for significant advancements in healthcare, education, commerce, and beyond. Through strategic collaboration and commitment to security, NGIC and its partners are dedicated to advancing Ghana’s digital landscape, promoting innovation, and supporting sustainable growth across the nation.
