NDC will reclaim all parliamentary seats – Dr. Rashid Tanko
Dr. Rashid Tanko-Computer, the Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reaffirmed the party’s determination to resolve all pending legal disputes concerning parliamentary seats.
This commitment follows the Supreme Court’s ruling on Friday, December 27, 2024, which annulled a High Court directive for the Electoral Commission (EC) to collate results in four constituencies without consulting the NDC.
Speaking to journalists after the verdict, Dr. Tanko-Computer hailed the decision as a triumph for democracy and emphasised the NDC’s resolve to pursue justice in three other unresolved cases.
“We have resolved four today, and we will tackle the remaining three. We will see this through to the very end. We are not backing down,” he declared.
The Supreme Court’s unanimous ruling invalidated an earlier High Court order requiring the EC to collate and announce results for Okaikwei Central, Tema Central, Techiman South, and Ablekuma North constituencies. The apex court determined that the High Court’s directive violated natural justice by failing to hear the NDC’s parliamentary candidates.
Additionally, the Supreme Court observed that the EC had already collated and declared results for the four constituencies, rendering the High Court’s directive redundant and procedurally incorrect.
Tanko-Computer praised the Supreme Court’s decision, describing it as a necessary correction of what he termed a “travesty of justice” by the High Court.
He also criticised the EC for what he called unlawful actions that undermined Ghana’s democratic framework.
“This lawless EC must be held accountable. They ignored Supreme Court directives and attempted to enforce illegality. Today, justice has prevailed, and they stand corrected,” he said.
He urged NDC supporters to remain steadfast, assuring them of the party’s unwavering commitment to fighting for justice in the remaining disputed constituencies.
“We told our people to trust the legal process, and this outcome validates that trust. We will not rest until we secure every contested seat,” he added.
The NDC plans to revisit the High Court to argue its case regarding the three unresolved disputes. Tanko-Computer expressed confidence in the party’s prospects, underscoring the importance of adhering to due process in electoral matters.
