The Ministry of National Security has categorically denied claims by The Herald newspaper that officers from the Ministry and the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) were involved in the alleged abduction of Sylvia Baah, the manager of Emirates Airlines at Kotoka International Airport.
In a press release issued on November 25, 2024, the ministry dismissed the allegations as baseless and called on the public to disregard the report.
“The Ministry wishes to categorically state that no officer from the Ministry or the National Intelligence Bureau was involved in the alleged abduction of Sylvia Baah,” the statement emphasised.
The alleged abduction incident first came to light when the police announced on November 22 that Mrs. Baah was reportedly taken from the entrance of her residence in Accra on November 21, 2024. Following investigations, the police confirmed that the victim had been found and reunited with her family.
Despite these developments, The Herald claimed that national security operatives were implicated in Mrs. Baah’s disappearance, sparking public concern.
The Ministry of National Security has assured the public that thorough investigations are underway to uncover the facts surrounding the incident. It also reiterated its commitment to holding anyone found culpable accountable under the law.
“This ministry is fully cooperating with the police and other relevant agencies to ensure that justice is served,” the statement read.
The ministry urged the public to avoid speculations that could undermine the credibility of national security institutions or compromise the ongoing investigations.
With investigations still active, the ministry reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens and residents.
