The Member of Parliament for Nalerigu/Gambaga, Nurideen Muhammed Mumuni, has called for urgent and uncompromising action by Ghana’s security agencies following the tragic killing of two students at the Nalerigu Senior High School.
The students were gunned down by unknown assailants on the night of Saturday, July 26, in what is widely believed to be a targeted attack within the school premises. The chilling incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and drawn nationwide concern.
“This incident at Nalerigu Senior High School demands a thorough investigation, and the security agencies must rise to the occasion and ensure those responsible are brought to justice,” Mr. Mumuni stated in an interview with Channel One TV on Sunday, July 27.

While the motive remains unconfirmed, local sources have linked the shooting to the long-running Bawku chieftaincy conflict, which has occasionally spilt into neighbouring communities, including Nalerigu.
The killings have heightened fears and tension among students, parents, and residents, prompting government intervention. A temporary curfew has been imposed from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. daily in a bid to restore calm in the area.
Headmaster of Nalerigu SHS, Mr. Mohammed Tibila, confirmed the fatal attack occurred within the school compound. The remains of the victims have since been handed over to their families for burial.
The incident has reignited calls for stronger security measures in the NortheastRegion, especially in areas vulnerable to ethnic and chieftaincy-related violence. Many are demanding increased patrols, community intelligence gathering, and a long-term resolution to the underlying conflicts threatening peace in the region.
