Ghanaian musician and social commentator Mzbel has responded to criticism following a video she shared online, where she was seen breastfeeding her one-year-old daughter in public.
The footage, filmed inside her car, sparked mixed reactions on social media. While some applauded her for promoting breastfeeding, others labelled the act as inappropriate and attention-seeking.
Addressing the controversy, Mzbel took to her social media platforms with an unapologetic message:
“Offended by breastfeeding? Don’t look!” she stated. “Breastfeeding is not a choice; it’s a responsibility. Normalise breastfeeding. Nurse in public. I make milk. What’s your superpower?”
She emphasised the importance of breastfeeding for a child’s health and encouraged mothers to feel no shame about nursing their children, regardless of location.
The video has reignited debates about public breastfeeding in Ghanaian society, with some critics accusing Mzbel of using the act for publicity, while supporters have praised her for challenging outdated societal norms.
Mzbel remains unfazed by the backlash, stating that motherhood is her proudest achievement, and she will continue to advocate for maternal rights and confidence.
