My Prosecution Was Politically Motivated- Ato Forson

The minority leader, Cassiel Ato Forson, has strongly criticised his ongoing prosecution, labelling it a politically motivated attempt to suppress his dissent and tarnish his reputation.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Monday, January 6, Dr. Ato Forson described the charges linked to an ambulance procurement deal as baseless and designed to advance partisan interests.

He accused Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame of spearheading a campaign of “malicious prosecution” aimed at silencing his opposition to the government’s economic policies.

“My recent prosecution, or call it persecution, by the Attorney General over frivolous and trumped-up charges was calculated to intimidate and silence and completely extinguish a known dissenting voice,” he stated.

Ato Forson highlighted the timing of the prosecution, noting its alignment with heated debates over the controversial e-levy policy. He argued that his outspoken criticism of the government’s economic management made him a target for political retribution.

“The fact that my prosecution began in the wake of the tussle over e-levy should not be lost on anyone that I became an instant target of the regime,” he added.

He reiterated his belief that the charges were part of a broader effort to stifle dissent and shield the government from accountability, further emphasising his commitment to challenging corruption and advocating for the interests of Ghanaians.
