Mustapha Gbande, the National Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has issued a stern warning against any attempts by President Nana Akufo Addo to retain power if the NDC wins the upcoming December 7 elections.
Speaking with conviction, Gbande emphasised the NDC’s preparedness to take decisive action if necessary. “We will arrest Nana like fowl and force him to hand over power to the NDC,” he declared.
According to Gbande, elections are a reflection of the people’s will, and if the electorate decides they have had enough of the current government’s hardships, the president must be ready to step down.
He stressed that the legitimacy of elections is determined by the rule of law, not by any underhanded tactics.
He issued a warning that any attempt by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to subvert the electoral process or to hand over power to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia would be met with strong resistance from the NDC.
Responding to recent controversial remarks by Hon. Bryan Acheampong, the Minister of Food and Agriculture, who claimed that the NPP would win the elections “by all means possible,” Gbande remarked, “People who brag have nothing up their sleeves.”
He urged President Akufo Addo to call his appointees to order or to discipline them.
Gbande asserted that the only reason President Akufo Addo might refuse to hand over power is if he has something to hide.
He highlighted that the NDC would adopt a defensive stance in response to such unguarded statements and cautioned that any attempts by the NPP to undermine the electoral process would have serious consequences.
He warned that if President Akufo Addo fails to take action against such behaviour, the NDC would be compelled to activate measures to counter any sinister plans from the ruling party.
