McDan Aviation has disputed claims that it owes the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) a debt of $3 million for the use of Terminal 1 at the Kotoka International Airport.
The company, which offers private jet services at the terminal, asserts that it has made significant payments and is actively working with the GACL to settle the matter.
In a statement issued on Monday, the CEO of McDan Aviation, Kwaku Ampronfi, described the reported $3 million debt as inaccurate.
“We do not owe $3 million as has been erroneously reported,” the statement read, adding that the company made a payment last week and plans to resume further payments in January 2025.
This is the second instance where the GACL has shut down McDan Aviation over outstanding debts related to the use of Terminal 1 for private jet services.
McDan Aviation also addressed a separate issue involving a parcel of land acquired from the GACL, explaining that third-party litigation has delayed payments linked to that transaction.
“Payments related to the land remain on hold due to the ongoing court case,” the company stated, clarifying that the dispute is unrelated to its Terminal 1 operations.
Terminal 1, previously designated for domestic flights, was repurposed for Fixed Base Operator (FBO) services in 2021, following the commissioning of Terminal 3 for international operations. McDan Aviation was allocated Terminal 1 for its private jet services as part of this shift.
Describing the GACL’s decision to close the terminal as “regrettable,” McDan Aviation insisted that discussions about financial obligations were still in progress and that the closure was premature.
“We are committed to resolving the issue through constructive dialogue,” the statement said, emphasizing the company’s intent to address the matter amicably.
While McDan Aviation acknowledged outstanding payments, it maintained that the situation is being managed and expressed optimism about reaching a resolution with the GACL in the near future.
