A 40-year-old man, Stephen Alatey, is on the run after allegedly murdering his wife and stepdaughter and attacking a hunter who attempted to save his remaining children in Aha-nso-wode, near Agona Bobikuma in the Central Region.
The tragic event unfolded after Alatey, reportedly embroiled in ongoing marital issues, persuaded his wife and three children to leave their village for Adeiso in the Eastern Region. While walking toward the roadside, he allegedly launched a vicious attack on his family, killing his wife and stepdaughter.
The remaining two children, traumatized by the incident, cried out for help, attracting the attention of a hunter who intervened. However, Alatey turned his aggression on the rescuer, leaving him with severe cutlass wounds before fleeing the scene.
The assemblyman for the Upper Bobikuma Electoral Area, George Awotwe, confirmed the incident to Adom News. He revealed that the injured hunter is receiving treatment at the Agona Swedru Municipal Hospital, while the surviving children are under police protection.
The Agona Bobikuma Police have launched an investigation and intensified their search for the suspect. Authorities are appealing to the public for assistance in locating Stephen Alatey.
“Anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts is urged to contact the nearest police station,” the police stated.
