The Presidential Candidate of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Andrew Christian Kyiriabosom, has announced plans to abolish the benefits currently enjoyed by Members of Parliament (MPs) if elected into power.
Speaking in an interview with Don Kwabena Prah on the *Hot Morning Drive*, Kyiriabosom criticised certain benefits, such as the allocation of luxurious vehicles like V8s, ex-gratia and other expensive benefits, arguing that they place an unnecessary burden on the country’s economy.
Kyiriabosom proposed that, instead of providing these benefits to MPs, the government should redirect the funds to support Ghanaian citizens, particularly by helping them grow their businesses.
He further explained that under his administration, cars would still be available for use by MPs, District Chief Executives (DCEs), CEOs, and Ministers of State. However, they would need to sign for the vehicles and justify their use with logical reasons.
Kyiriabosom expressed his dismay at the current situation, where citizens struggle in poverty while state officials enjoy lavish lifestyles, insisting that this imbalance is a key factor in the country’s economic challenges.
