The chiefs and elders of Kwawu Obo have issued a one-month ultimatum to Dr. Bryan Acheampong, the Member of Parliament for the Abetifi constituency and Minister of Agriculture, to address concerns regarding a contentious farmland dispute.
The controversy centres on a large tract of farmland where unidentified security personnel are allegedly preventing local farmers from accessing the land for farming activities.
Farmers in the area suspect that the land has been sold to Dr. Acheampong, a claim the chiefs have vehemently denied.
However, the farmers’ accusations have created tension within the community, leading to threats against the traditional authorities.
At a press conference in Kwawu Obo, Okofo Ampadu Kyeamire, the Kontihene of the town, expressed the chiefs’ frustration over the matter.
“The chiefs are furious because of the farmers’ perception, and we urge the agriculture minister to address this issue within one month. If he fails to do so, we will advise ourselves,” Okofo Kyeamire stated.
The chiefs are urging Dr. Acheampong to clarify the situation, dispel the allegations, and restore calm in the community.
They believe his intervention is crucial to resolving the dispute and preventing further misunderstandings between the farmers and the traditional authorities.
The ultimatum reflects the growing frustration among the chiefs, elders, and farmers, who are demanding an immediate resolution.
The chiefs have indicated that they may take further action if Dr. Acheampong fails to respond within the stipulated time.
