Spokesperson for the President-elect’s side of the Transition Team, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has raised concerns over the lack of transparency surrounding last-minute recruitments and payments by the outgoing New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
Speaking after the Transition Team’s second meeting on December 13, 2024, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu disclosed that his team had requested clarity on ongoing significant financial transactions and appointments, calling for them to be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
“Processes leading to these recruitments and payments have not been open, and as such, they warrant scrutiny,” he stated.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu emphasized the importance of ensuring accountability during the transition period, urging public officials to comply with the directives of the Transition Team.
“This is to bring clarity to the status of these payments and recruitments and offer an amicable structure for satisfactorily addressing the issues involved,” he said in a statement.
He also advised public officials to resist undue pressure to push through irregular transactions during the transitional period.
The Transition Team, which is facilitating the power transfer from the NPP to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has formed three statutory subcommittees to oversee critical aspects of the process.
The committees include the Inauguration Subcommittee, the Government Machinery Subcommittee, and the Presidency Subcommittee.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu hinted that more subcommittees could be formed as the transition progresses to ensure a seamless handover.
“The teams have been cordial in their engagements, and we remain committed to ensuring a smooth transition,” he noted.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu’s comments highlight the importance of safeguarding state resources and processes during the transition.
He reiterated that all ongoing payments and appointments must adhere to legal and procedural guidelines, adding that his team would not hesitate to challenge any irregularities.
The statement from Mr. Kwakye Ofosu underscores the NDC’s determination to uphold accountability as the incoming government prepares to take office on January 7, 2025.
