Konongo Firefighters Escape Mob Attack Over Delayed Response

Firefighters from the Konongo Odumasi and Ejisu Fire Stations in the Ashanti Region narrowly avoided a violent attack from an angry mob while responding to a fire emergency in the Odumasi Suntreso area.

The incident, which occurred during an emergency response, marks the third time firefighters have faced hostility over delayed arrivals in the municipality.

The Konongo Divisional Fire Service Commander, DOII Joe Bryden, explained to Adom News that the delayed response was due to the breakdown of their fire tender, which has been out of service for nearly two months. Consequently, assistance had to be sought from the Ejisu Fire Station, further extending response times.

“When we received the distress call, we could not act swiftly because our fire tender has been nonfunctional for two months now,” DOII Bryden revealed.

When firefighters from Ejisu finally arrived at the scene, they were met with hostility. Frustrated residents, angered by the delayed response, hurled stones at the fire tender, shattering the windscreen and headlights and damaging other parts of the vehicle.
