The Krontihene of Akyem Asoum, Nana Boadi Amponim Abodade III, has expressed unwavering confidence in the return of former President John Mahama to Ghana’s highest office, describing him as the nation’s saviour in a time of crisis.
Speaking in an interview on GHOne TV, Nana Boadi drew a parallel between Mahama and the biblical Good Samaritan, portraying him as the rescuer Ghana desperately needs after what he characterised as years of mismanagement under the Akufo-Addo administration.
“We thank God that the good Lord is about to give the mantle to President John Mahama,” Nana Boadi said, referencing the parable in Luke 10:29. “Ghana has been stripped naked; Mother Ghana is bleeding. The robbers have stolen all the goodies, and a Good Samaritan has come to rescue her and recover the loot that the robbers took.”
The Krontihene did not hold back in his criticism of the outgoing government, accusing it of squandering resources and leaving the country worse off.
“He had so much revenue; he had so much he could have done for this country,” Nana Boadi lamented, highlighting what he saw as wasted opportunities to transform Ghana’s fortunes.
Nana Boadi’s remarks reflect growing calls for better leadership and governance in Ghana. He expressed hope that Mahama’s potential return would restore dignity, accountability, and efficient use of resources to the presidency.
“Some of us are happy that his [Akufo-Addo’s] reign is over. A lot of the chiefs are happy,” he disclosed, emphasising the shared sentiment among traditional rulers.
In his concluding remarks, Nana Boadi underscored the urgency of healing and rebuilding the nation, placing his faith in Mahama’s leadership.
“Ghana needs a leader who will put her in a good, healthy, and happy situation,” he affirmed.
