The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu, has voiced his profound disappointment in the performance of the 8th Parliament of Ghana, criticising its conduct and legislative output.
In an interview with Citi News, Osei-Owusu, popularly known as Joe Wise, lamented that the current parliamentary session has been marred by unnecessary controversies and distractions, resulting in a failure to focus on its primary duty of lawmaking.
Joe Wise pointed out that the 8th Parliament has not lived up to the legislative standards set by previous sessions. He highlighted the limited number of laws and smaller legislative instruments passed, comparing it unfavourably to earlier parliaments.
“Let me say that I am disappointed in the eighth Parliament, generally,” he remarked. “We have wasted so much time on inconsequential matters. Our main job is making laws, yet this Parliament has done the least in terms of legislative output.”
He also expressed frustration over the frequent disputes in the House, noting that issues that were previously resolved through discussion now often escalate into physical altercations, further hindering progress.
Joe Wise’s comments reflect growing concerns about the ability of the 8th Parliament to meet the nation’s legislative needs effectively.
