Hawa Koomson is very insensitive and arrogant- NDC Deputy Women’s Organizer fires

The National Deputy Women’s Organizer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abigail Elorm Mensah has described the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon. Hawa Koomson as very insensitive and arrogant to Ghanaians.

Her comments come after Hon. Hawa Koomson urged Ghanaians to go to Canada and see if they think rent is expensive in Ghana.

Hawa Koomson claims standard of living in Ghana is better than some other countries in Europe.

“People have been complaining that rent is expensive in Ghana. They should go to Canada. For a month you pay over 2,000 Canadian dollars. That’s for a single room not even a chamber and hall. Things are hard now and there is high cost of living everywhere and when you compare Ghana to other countries, Ghana is doing far better,” she said in Twi.

Reacting to a question that living conditions in Canada are better than that of Ghana and should not compare the rate of rent in the two countries, the lawmaker said “the cost of living is not better in Canada than Ghana. That’s what you think.”

It is at the back of this the National Deputy Women’s Organizer for NDC has described the minister as very insensitive and arrogant to Ghanaians.

According to Abigail Elorm Mensah, Ghanaians are unable to pay their rents and facing economic hardship due to the mismanagement of the NPP government.

She added that, the NDC empathizes with the ordinary Ghanaians who are genuinely demanding for better living conditions and particularly asking for cheaper cost of accommodation; and assures them that, the next administration of JOHN MAHAMA government from January 7 2025 will try it’s possible best to improve living conditions across all sectors in other to help reduce the burden accommodation cost imposes on Ghanaians.

PRESS RELEASE

Re: If you think Rent is expensive in Ghana, go to Canada and see- Hawa Koomson

I have become aware of news reports with the above headline, curled from a recent interview granted to Onua Fm/ Onua Tv by the Dishonorable Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East and Minister for Fisheries, Hawa Koomson.

In the said interview (with video evidence available), Hawa Koomson is heard calling the bluff of Ordinary Ghanaians who are genuinely expressing their displeasure against the exorbitant cost of accommodation especially in this excruciating economic hardship Ghanaians have been plunged into by the failed Akufo Addo-Bawumia government in which she serves as a Minister, to flee Ghana and move to Canada.

As a Woman, Wife and most importantly a mother, one would have thought she will understand the plight of these young Ghanaians who are frustrated and suffering under this cruel administration which she is part of but as usually of them, the ordinary Ghanaian doesn’t matter.

This statement I believe is very insensitive coming from a woman and born out of sheer arrogance; particularly so from a government and its assigns that literally begged Ghanaians to try them in 2016 and further hoodwinked them in 2020 under the deception of COVID-19 adversities and promised to support their rent payment.

The least such a government and its appointees can do is to be sensitive to the plight of ordinary voters and work towards improving living conditions even as they prepare to handover Political power in January 2025.

The Minister in question’s latest utterance is not too surprising to many Ghanaians as it only adds up to a plethora of despicable comments made by her over the last 7 years. It reflects the general mentality and character trait of this NPP government and is evident in her latest appointment as Bawumia’s Campaign Coordinator for the Coastal Belt.

The NDC empathizes with ordinary Ghanaians who are genuinely demanding better living conditions and particularly, asking for cheaper cost of accommodation; and assures them that a JOHN MAHAMA government from January 7 2025, will work at improving living conditions across all sectors in other to help reduce the burden accommodation cost imposes on Ghanaians.

Ironically, a government that cannot print Passport books for Ghanaian applicants because of incompetence, corruption and needless bureaucracy, is today calling the bluff of young Ghanaians and is asking them to flee the country if they deem rent cost to be expensive. Which document do they expect ordinary Ghanaians to travel with?

Whiles calling on the arrogant MP and Minister to apologize to Ghanaians for her reckless and insensitive comments, we urge Ghanaians to have faith in JOHN MAHAMA and the NDC as we remain the most viable option going into election 2024 and beyond.

His Excellency JOHN MAHAMA will make living conditions better from January 2025 as President by implementing: His game-changing 24 Hour Economy policy to create more decent jobs for our teeming unemployed youth, Free Primary Healthcare to make healthcare delivery accessible and affordable at the basic levels of society, the Big Push Agenda to improve the Nation’s industrialization drive, cancellation of Ex-gratia and payment of social services ( fuel, TV subscriptions, etc) for Government Officials to reduce government expenditure, thereby saving the Nation millions of cedis; among other life-changing policies.

I believe every Ghanaian deserves a better living condition, and JOHN MAHAMA and the NDC will work towards that when voted into office in the 2024 General Elections.

God bless our homeland Ghana and the NDC!

Signed;
Abigail Elorm Akwambea Mensah
Deputy National Women’s Organizer
National Democratic Congress
