A joyous occasion turned into a scene of heartbreak in Akyem Anamase near Oda in the Eastern Region last Friday when Chief Inspector Godwin Beniba, the groom, tragically passed away during his wedding ceremony.
Chief Inspector Beniba, who served as the station officer at the Anamase Police Station, collapsed shortly after arriving at the Anamase Hotel, the event venue.
The groom had been eagerly awaiting the arrival of his bride, Florence Debrah, who was preparing in one of the rooms at the event centre. According to eyewitness accounts, he complained of dizziness upon entering the venue. Before anyone could intervene, he collapsed on the floor.
Efforts to save him proved futile as he was rushed to the Anamase Clinic by some guests but was pronounced dead on arrival by medical personnel.
The shocking news devastated the hundreds of attendees who had gathered to celebrate the union. Among them were police personnel who had travelled from various parts of the country, including Accra, Koforidua, Oda, and Akyem Swedru. Many were seen weeping uncontrollably, unable to process the sudden loss.
Food and drinks prepared for the celebration remained untouched as mourners, in a state of shock, left the venue in sorrow.
The family of the late Chief Inspector Beniba, who had travelled from his hometown in the Northern Region for the ceremony, arranged for his body to be transported to the Oda Government Hospital mortuary for autopsy and preservation.
