Gov’t to Digitise 16,000 Services on Upgraded Ghana.gov Platform—Minister Samuel George
The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has announced that 16,000 government services will be digitised and integrated into an upgraded Ghana.gov platform by the end of 2025, in a bold push to modernise public service delivery and enhance digital access for citizens and businesses.
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday to provide updates on second-quarter developments within the digital sector, Mr. George said the ministry, in collaboration with the National Information Technology Agency (NITA), is currently re-engineering the Ghana.gov portal to significantly expand its reach and functionality.
“This upgraded portal will enhance transparency, convenience, and reliability in accessing government services. We intend to put 16,000 government services on that platform,” he stated.

The portal currently hosts between 1,500 and 2,000 services, including digital payment options, permit applications, business registrations, and license renewals. The new version, expected to launch in the fourth quarter of 2025 after a competitive public tender, will feature full Ghana Card integration, faster response times, and a more intuitive interface tailored to both individuals and enterprises.
Mr. George, who is also the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, emphasised that the platform overhaul forms part of the government’s broader digital transformation agenda, aimed at reducing bureaucracy, improving turnaround times, and making government services more accessible to every Ghanaian, regardless of location.
The minister also touched on issues affecting digital content regulation and consumer protection. He condemned the rise of sexually explicit content on TikTok, describing it as “completely unacceptable” and contrary to Ghanaian cultural values.
He revealed that the government had met with TikTok’s West Africa team on June 26 to address the issue. Among the outcomes of the engagement were:
- A demand for in-country content moderation by locally trained personnel
- The development of a local content governance framework
- A directive to the Cybersecurity Authority (CSA) to monitor and remove offensive content, particularly to safeguard minors online
Pledge to Reduce DStv Subscription Prices
Mr. George also assured Ghanaians that DStv subscription rates will be reduced, following a scheduled meeting on Friday, July 4, between the ministry, MultiChoice Ghana, and its South African executives.
“I make you one promise: I won’t leave tomorrow’s meeting without securing a drop in the price of DStv,” he declared, stressing the importance of aligning subscription pricing with Ghana’s economic realities.
Radio Station Compliance Update
On enforcement action against non-compliant radio stations, the minister disclosed that only 18 out of 62 stations shut down by the National Communications Authority (NCA) had reached out to the regulator to begin addressing their violations.
The stations, which were closed for infractions such as
- Operating without valid licenses
- Failing to present tax clearance certificates
- Ignoring broadcast standards
were granted a 30-day moratorium by the President. Mr. George stated that the 18 stations that had shown good faith would be given a further 30-day extension to complete the compliance process, but no mercy would be shown to those who failed to respond.
“This is not political. It’s about sanitising our airwaves and ensuring legal, professional broadcasting practices,” he emphasised.
The minister concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to building a digitally inclusive, accountable, and secure Ghana, urging media houses, tech firms, and citizens to support the country’s digital transformation efforts.
