Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has thrown his full support behind the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, expressing confidence in his ability to transform Ghana’s economy if elected in the December polls.
Addressing selected journalists on Sunday, November 17, Mr. Kufuor lauded Dr. Bawumia’s economic expertise, citing his pivotal contributions to stabilising the local currency during his tenure as Vice President. The former president highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s collaboration with the Bank of Ghana as a key factor in driving economic progress.
“Given the current global circumstances, I firmly believe that Ghana’s economy will experience significant improvement if Bawumia is elected as President. With divine guidance, he is capable of delivering on this promise, and I encourage you to support his candidacy,” Mr. Kufuor stated.
Mr. Kufuor recalled Dr. Bawumia’s involvement in economic management during his presidency, particularly his contributions to the Bank of Ghana under the leadership of Dr. Paul Acquah. He emphasised the Vice President’s role in reviving the local currency and enhancing economic stability during challenging times.
“I have observed his remarkable abilities in economic enhancement during my tenure, as he was integral to the Bank of Ghana’s team. His track record speaks volumes, and I believe he is well-equipped to lead the nation to greater economic prosperity,” he said.
Urging Ghanaians to rally behind Dr. Bawumia, Mr. Kufuor described him as the candidate best positioned to navigate the nation’s economic challenges and deliver sustainable development. His endorsement comes at a critical time as political parties ramp up their campaigns ahead of the December general elections.
This endorsement from one of the NPP’s most respected figures is expected to bolster Dr. Bawumia’s campaign, signalling continuity and competence as key themes for the party. As the election date draws closer, Ghanaians will weigh these endorsements and track records in making their decision.
