The Krontihene of Akyem Asoum, Nana Boadi Amponim Abodade III, has delivered a sharp critique of Ghana’s governance under President Akufo-Addo, accusing the administration of mismanagement and leaving the nation in a state of despair.
Speaking in an interview with GHOne TV, Nana Boadi described Ghana as “stripped naked” by what he termed “looters,” leaving the country “bleeding” and in urgent need of rescue.
“Ghana has been stripped naked; Mother Ghana is bleeding,” he declared, likening the nation’s plight to the biblical parable of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10:29. “The robbers have stolen all the goodies. But a Good Samaritan has come to rescue her, put her in a healthy and happy situation, and recover the loot that the robbers took.”
The chief expressed hope in former President John Dramani Mahama’s return to power, seeing it as divine intervention to restore the country’s fortunes.
“We thank God that the good Lord is about to give the mantle to President John Mahama,” Nana Boadi said, emphasising his belief in Mahama’s ability to revitalise Ghana’s governance.
Reflecting on Akufo-Addo’s tenure, Nana Boadi criticised what he viewed as squandered opportunities and poor leadership.
“He had so much revenue, so much he could have done for this country, but he failed,” he lamented.
Nana Boadi also shared insights from his interactions with fellow traditional leaders, many of whom, he claimed, shared his dissatisfaction with the outgoing administration.
“A good friend of mine, who is also a chief, told me once, ‘Let’s see if he will come around and instruct chiefs to wake up to greet him.’ It’s not a good legacy,” he remarked.
The chief concluded with a prayerful appeal for better governance in the future.
“We pray we don’t get another Akufo-Addo to be president of Ghana,” he stated, underscoring his hopes for a brighter path ahead under new leadership.
