The Deputy Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Hon. Charles Acheampong, has officially launched the ECOWAS Free Roaming initiative between Ghana and its neighbouring countries, Togo and Benin.
The launch event took place on October 9, 2024, at the NCA Tower in Accra.
This expansion follows the successful rollout of the ECOWAS Roaming Initiative between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, which allows citizens to use mobile services in both countries without international roaming charges.
With the addition of Togo and Benin to the initiative, travellers can now make calls, send messages, and access data across all three countries at local rates, eliminating the need for expensive international roaming fees.
The initiative is part of the broader ECOWAS goal of enhancing regional integration and improving connectivity across West Africa. By facilitating affordable communication, the free roaming policy is expected to boost economic activity, foster closer ties, and improve the ease of doing business in the region.
