Ghana and eLearning Africa Sign MoU to Host 2026 Conference in Accra

The Government of Ghana has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with eLearning Africa to host the 19th edition of the continent’s premier conference on digital education, training, and skills development. The high-profile event will take place in Accra from June 3 to 5, 2026, and is expected to draw over 1,000 participants from more than 80 countries.

The signing ceremony was led by Ghana’s Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, and his deputy, Clement Abas Apaak, alongside Rebecca Stromeyer, Founder and CEO of eLearning Africa. The agreement marks a major milestone in Ghana’s ambition to become a leader in digital learning and educational innovation across Africa.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister Clement Apaak emphasised Ghana’s determination to bridge educational inequality through digital transformation.

“This MoU represents our shared commitment to ensuring that every Ghanaian child, whether in urban Accra or rural communities, has access to quality education enhanced by technology,” he stated.

Ghana’s selection as host reflects ongoing reforms and investments in education. Through initiatives like the Ghana Accountability for Learning Outcomes Project (GALOP) and its Education Strategic Plan 2030, the country has demonstrated measurable progress in improving teaching and learning outcomes. Currently, GALOP is being scaled up to cover 15,000 public schools, benefiting over 2 million learners and training 64,000 teachers nationwide.

The project is backed by a coalition of international funders, including the Jacobs Foundation, Botnar Foundation, UBS Optimus Foundation, the Global Partnership for Education, and ten of the world’s top cocoa and chocolate companies.

The Accra conference is poised to become a key moment for education stakeholders across Africa and the globe. Ministers, policymakers, educators, business leaders, and innovators will converge in Ghana’s capital to explore how digital tools can drive equity, quality, and access in education.

In a significant addition to this year’s program, eLearning Africa will launch a journal series on digital learning and skills development, offering an open-access platform for African-led research and policy dialogue. The inaugural edition will be edited by Professor George K. T. Oduro, Dean at the University of Cape Coast and Technical Advisor to the Minister of Education.

“This is more than a conference,” said Apaak. “It is an opportunity to demonstrate Ghana’s leadership in Africa’s educational transformation and to build lasting partnerships that will benefit learners across our continent.”

Beyond policy discussions, the 2026 event will spotlight the work of young Ghanaian developers and education entrepreneurs whose digital solutions are reshaping the future of learning. Organisers say it will be an opportunity to showcase local talent and connect them with global opportunities.

Preparations are already underway, with Ghana aiming to use the platform to promote inclusive, tech-enabled education—not just within its borders, but across the African continent.

As Ghana steps into the spotlight, eLearning Africa 2026 promises to be a defining moment for digital education policy, research, and innovation on the continent.
