The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has strongly refuted allegations in a viral audio recording suggesting that a civilian pick-up truck transported boxes of ammunition from the Magazine of the 5th Battalion of Infantry to an unknown location.
In a statement released on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, GAF categorically dismissed the claims, describing them as baseless and urging the public to disregard the audio.
According to GAF, the vehicle in question was not transporting ammunition but was delivering a live cow. The cow was being quarantined before its relocation to a kraal adjacent to the Magazine premises.
The statement read:
“GAF wishes to assure the public that the information on the said audio is false and should be treated with the contempt it deserves.”
The Armed Forces highlighted the dangers of spreading unverified security-related information, noting that such actions can lead to unnecessary tension, fear, and panic within the country.
“Such actions tend to create unnecessary tension and also cause fear and panic in the country,” the statement emphasised.
GAF urged individuals and groups to verify security-related information through its Department of Public Relations before sharing it publicly.
The Armed Forces reiterated its dedication to maintaining Ghana’s stability and sovereignty, calling on citizens to act responsibly to promote peace and security.
“GAF remains unwavering in its commitment to safeguarding the stability and sovereignty of Ghana and encourages all citizens to support efforts to maintain peace.”
As the festive season continues, the GAF advises the public to be cautious about the information they consume and share, emphasising the need for collective responsibility in upholding national security.
This clarification aims to dispel fears and prevent further misinformation from disrupting the country’s peace and stability.
