Free SHS Coordinator praises Thomas Amoani, reaffirms commitment to Free SHS program

The National Deputy Coordinator of Free Senior High Schools (SHS), Nana Afrah Sika Mensah, has expressed her enthusiasm for the accomplishments of Thomas Amoani, a beneficiary of the Free SHS program who recently graduated with First Class Honours from Brunel University in London.

In an interview with Puretvonline.com, Nana Afrah disclosed that the Free SHS department has yet to meet Amoani, who has recently returned to Ghana after completing his studies.

“We have heard of his return to the country, and we are eager to meet him to see how we can further support his endeavours,” she stated.

Nana Afrah lauded Amoani’s achievements, attributing his success to the Free SHS program implemented in 2017.

“If not for the Free SHS initiative, Thomas Amoani, coming from a deprived community like Adeiso, might not have come this far,” she emphasised.

She highlighted that since its inception, the Free SHS program has enrolled 1.3 million students, providing educational opportunities to many who would otherwise be unable to afford it.

“Free SHS has significantly benefited Ghanaians, especially the poor and needy, and it has become an essential part of our educational system,” she added.

Amoani first gained national recognition with his stellar performance in the 2020 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), where he achieved an impressive 8As.

His academic excellence earned him a scholarship to study in the United Kingdom, a transformative opportunity that has propelled him to greater heights.

Coming from a background where he had to walk 12 kilometres daily to attend school, Amoani’s journey is a testament to resilience, determination, and the potential within every Ghanaian child.

His story serves as an inspiration not only to students in Ghana but also across the sub-region.

Recently, Amoani graduated with First Class Honours from Brunel University, receiving a prize in Economics and Finance.

This achievement marks a significant milestone in his academic journey and showcases his unwavering commitment to excellence.

Nana Afrah Sika Mensah applauded Amoani for his dedication and hard work, stating, “He has taken full advantage of the Free SHS program to achieve remarkable success.

His story is a powerful example of what can be accomplished with access to quality education.”

The Free SHS department looks forward to engaging with Amoani to celebrate his success and explore ways to further support his future endeavours.

Nana Afrah reiterated the government’s commitment to the Free SHS program, ensuring that it continues to provide opportunities for all Ghanaian children to achieve their full potential.
