A devastating fire on Friday, December 20, 2024, destroyed a bungalow housing teachers at Toase Senior High School (SHS) in the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The blaze, which began in one of the staff flats, quickly spread to three additional flats, consuming the structures and all belongings of the affected teachers.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
However, Ernest Opoku Mensah, the assembly member for the Toase electoral area, confirmed that none of the teachers’ possessions could be salvaged from the fire.
“We have one bungalow with four flats, each occupied by a teacher. The fire started in one flat and spread to the others. While some occupants managed to save a few items, two flats were completely destroyed, leaving their occupants with nothing,” Mr. Mensah explained.
In the wake of the disaster, the school administration acted swiftly to provide temporary accommodations for the affected teachers.
“The administration has secured an apartment for the affected teachers to stay temporarily while we assess the situation and determine the next steps,” Mr. Mensah added.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and investigations are underway.
The incident highlights the urgent need for fire safety measures and support for affected teachers as they recover from this loss.
