The National Democratic Congress (NDC) general secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has said that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is not a credible candidate to be the president of Ghana.
Kwetey underlined that Bawumia is unable to hold the nation’s highest office because he is an essential component of the current administration and is unable to separate himself from its failings.
Fifi Kwetey harshly lambasted Dr. Bawumia and the government for their failure to apologise to Ghanaians for the catastrophe they have caused and for not accepting accountability for their economic mismanagement.
He expressed surprise that Dr. Bawumia has not addressed the current issues and is instead waiting to be elected president before enacting reforms, despite her repeated promises of revolutionary improvements in important sectors. A decision that Fifi Kwetey views as blatantly incompetent and lacking in political will.
Fifi Kwetey claimed in an interview on Channel One TV’s The Point of View that John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the NDC, has far more credibility than Dr. Bawumia. She emphasised the former’s accomplishments and dedication to keeping word, which stand in stark contrast to the latter’s unfulfilled promises.
It therefore requires courage and principle. We are discussing the NPP flagbearer, who serves as the team leader for economic management. Who, when he is in control and able to solve the issue, has been at the centre of administration and continues to promise what we refer to as heaven? Who is guaranteeing that he will resolve e-levy when he arrives? You have the authority to settle the e-levy. No, I’ll take care of the e-levy when I arrive.
“The taxes, I’m going to bring a flat rate when I come, really? You are in charge, you can accomplish it right now, and you have a lot of power. Even today, when he has the potential to act immediately and take the initiative, he continues to promise heaven.
Therefore, it’s not just about having visited that area of Mahama; rather, it’s just a matter of character. It has to do with honour and dignity. He said to host Bernard Avle, “Mahama has it, whereas the flagbearer of the NPP absolutely has none.”
Fifi Kwetey underlined that the legitimacy of the presidential contenders will determine the outcome of the next election, not the meaningless rhetoric that Dr. Bawumia is promoting.
This election will be based on values, principles, and a track record that is grounded in credibility rather than ideas. Talk is not the issue in this election; everyone can talk. Talk is cheap; ideas may be found by any liar or crook.
“The ability to have the principle to say things and mean them is the true core of leadership. You don’t even have the humility to apologise when something goes wrong, so it’s not like you can say, “This is what we want to do and even if you don’t achieve it, people do know that you actually meant it, not to deliberately lie to them.”
