Empress Gifty–Agradaa Defamation Case Ends in GH¢100,000 Settlement

The defamation lawsuits filed by gospel musician Empress Gifty Oppong Adorye against Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, have been officially settled, bringing an end to the high-profile legal battle.

The cases were resolved after both parties reached an amicable settlement, which included a GH¢100,000 payment by Evangelist Asiedua. The agreement was adopted as a consent judgement on January 20, 2026, by both the Tema Land Court and the Tema Main Court, formally closing the two suits filed in May and June 2025.

Empress Gifty had dragged the controversial evangelist to court over a series of social media publications she described as defamatory, injurious and damaging to her reputation. In her claims, the gospel musician sought GH¢40 million in damages for alleged slander and libel, as well as a perpetual injunction to restrain further defamatory publications.

She also requested the removal of the offending content from social media platforms and full recovery of legal costs.

However, the matter was settled out of court following negotiations between the parties, avoiding a full trial.

Under the terms of the settlement, Evangelist Patricia Asiedua agreed to pay GH¢100,000 to Empress Gifty to cover legal fees and related expenses. She further undertook to publicly retract the statements complained of, issue a public apology, and formally request the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) to facilitate the removal of the disputed publications from social media.

Confirming the development, lawyer for Nana Agradaa, Richard Asare Baffour, said all conditions attached to the settlement have been fully met.

“The GH¢100,000 has been paid in full, and a public apology has already been rendered in accordance with the terms of the settlement,” he stated.

Mr Baffour added that with the adoption of the consent judgements by the courts, Empress Gifty has withdrawn all claims arising from the two lawsuits.

“The adoption of the consent judgements brings the matter to a complete and final close,” he noted.

The settlement brings an end to months of legal tension between the two public figures, whose dispute had played out prominently in both courtrooms and on social media.
