Electric vehicle manufacturing plant opens in Ethiopia

The Belayneh Kinde Group has launched a new electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plant in Debre Birhan, Ethiopia, with an investment of US$52 million.

This cutting-edge facility boasts an annual production capacity exceeding 1,000 electric vehicles.

The new plant is anticipated to generate 1,000 jobs for Ethiopian citizens, offering significant employment opportunities in the region.

Beyond job creation, the facility aims to facilitate technological transfer and save foreign currency by reducing Ethiopia’s dependence on imported vehicles.

Spanning 9,000 square meters (97,000 square feet), the assembly plant is equipped to produce minibuses, coaster buses, luxury buses, and dry and liquid cargo trucks. This diverse product range enables the factory to cater to the rising demand for sustainable transportation solutions in Ethiopia and the wider East African market.

The inauguration of this advanced EV factory marks a crucial milestone in Ethiopia’s quest to modernize its transportation infrastructure and lower its carbon footprint.
