Ecobank Invests GH₵500k to Deliver Modern CHPS Centre for Dawhenya Residents

Ecobank Ghana has invested GH₵500,000 in reconstructing and equipping a modern Community Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Centre at Dawhenya North in the Greater Accra Region, significantly boosting access to maternal and child healthcare in the community.

The project, undertaken through the bank’s Employee Volunteerism Programme under its flagship Mega Project, is the third of its kind and reflects Ecobank’s long-standing commitment to community health and development.

At the commissioning ceremony, Ecobank’s Executive Director and Regional Head of Consumer Banking, Tara Squire, said the initiative demonstrates how corporate partnerships can address critical health needs while ensuring sustainability.

“We are planting the seeds of a healthier future for mothers and children in Dawhenya and its surrounding communities,” Mr Squire said. “This CHPS Centre represents the power of collective action—Ecobank staff contributing voluntarily, and the bank matching those efforts to create lasting impact.”

The newly commissioned facility replaces a converted kenkey house, which had served as the community’s health post since 2002. With modern infrastructure and essential medical equipment, the centre now has the capacity to serve a wider catchment area and improve patient outcomes.

Mr Squire expressed appreciation to Asafoatse Gyebi II for releasing additional land for the expansion of the facility and to the CHPS Centre’s management for their collaboration.

Alongside the commissioning, Ecobank launched a week-long financial inclusion campaign, encouraging families—particularly expectant and nursing mothers—to open savings accounts as part of securing their families’ health and financial futures.

The project is funded through the personal contributions of more than 1,500 Ecobank employees nationwide, which the bank matches to amplify its impact.

“The enormous voluntary participation of staff in this initiative is a testament to our shared commitment to community development,” Mr. Squire noted.

For over 30 years, Ecobank Ghana has supported underserved communities with targeted Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects, particularly in education, health, and financial inclusion. Mr Squire reaffirmed the bank’s dedication to scaling such initiatives to uplift lives across the country.

“As we like to say, ‘One facility at a time, one community at a time’—this is how we demonstrate our unwavering dedication to community development,” he said.
