The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that printing of ballot papers for the upcoming Akwatia parliamentary by-election will begin on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
The confirmation followed a crucial meeting convened by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) on Tuesday with political parties to discuss security arrangements and preventive measures against electoral violence.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, the EC’s Director of Electoral Services, Benjamin Bano-Bioh, said all procurement processes had been completed ahead of the poll.

“As of now, we are going to start the printing of ballots from tomorrow,” he stated. “Procurement has already been done. We have procured all the materials required for the election, so we are ready.”
The by-election was triggered by the sudden passing of Akwatia MP Ernest Yaw Kumi of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who died in July 2025.
Bano-Bioh assured that the Commission is “poised to deliver on our mandate in a professional way” and urged political parties to “play by the rules” as the nation prepares for the poll.
