EC appeals for public support amid disputes over parliamentary results

The Electoral Commission (EC) has called on Ghanaians to support its efforts to ensure credible and transparent elections amid ongoing disputes surrounding the recollation and declaration of parliamentary results in several constituencies.

The affected constituencies include Nsawam Adoagyiri, Dome Kwabenya, Ablekuma North, and Okaikwei Central, where irregularities and disruptions have marred the process.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Friday, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa emphasised the importance of public cooperation in maintaining the integrity of Ghana’s electoral process. She urged citizens to contribute to peaceful and orderly elections, stressing that credible elections require collective effort.

“We would like to finally call on the citizens of Ghana to support us in our bid to carry out our mandate. May God bless all of you, and may God bless our homeland, Ghana, and make her great and strong,” Mensa stated.

Mensa reaffirmed the EC’s position that the parliamentary results for Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, and Ablekuma North remain invalid.

She explained that these results were declared under duress, citing threats to electoral staff and incidents of ballot paper destruction as key factors in the decision.

The EC has yet to outline its next steps in addressing the unresolved disputes in these constituencies. The commission has reiterated its commitment to ensuring transparency and accuracy in the process while calling for calm and understanding from all stakeholders.

As the nation awaits further developments, the EC has underscored the shared responsibility of all Ghanaians in safeguarding the democratic process and upholding the principles of free and fair elections.
