The Amasaman Circuit Court has sentenced a 35-year-old driver, Kwadwo Larbi, to five years in prison with hard labour for stealing a Toyota bus valued at GH¢70,000.
Larbi pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing and was convicted by Justice Enid Marful-Sau, a High Court judge with additional responsibility at the Circuit Court. However, he denied conspiring with another suspect, identified as Godwin Baah, who is currently on the run.
Presenting the facts, Police Chief Inspector Salifu Nashiru told the court that the complainant, Joseph Addy, a businessman residing at North Kaneshie, owned a white Toyota bus with registration number GT 4403-15. He had entrusted the vehicle to a commercial driver, Yaw Mensah, for operations.

While in use, the bus developed a mechanical fault and was parked at Sarpeiman on the Accra-Nsawam road. Mr. Addy was informed and later visited the location with a mechanic to initiate repairs, which could not be completed immediately.
However, on June 3, 2025, while en route back to the site with the mechanic to finish the work, Mr. Addy received a distress call from his driver informing him that the bus had vanished.
A complaint was immediately lodged at the Amasaman Police Station.
Four days later, on June 7, 2025, police received a tip-off that Larbi had towed the vehicle to a scrapyard in Kasoa and was attempting to sell it as scrap. Officers from the Kasoa Police Command swiftly moved in and arrested him.
In his caution statement, Larbi claimed that one Baah from Sarpeiman had engaged him to tow and sell the bus. However, he failed to assist the police in locating his alleged accomplice.
Following investigations, Larbi was charged with theft and arraigned before the court, where he received a custodial sentence for his actions.
