The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has appealed to its supporters to avoid attacking state institutions in the wake of the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections.
Speaking on behalf of the party, Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi emphasised the importance of maintaining peace, asserting that the NDC has already secured victory in the polls.
“There is no need to attack government institutions or vandalise any public property; there is no need for that,” Mr. Gyamfi stated.
He explained that such actions could undermine the party’s claimed victory and provide excuses for corrupt officials within the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration to evade accountability.
Highlighting allegations of corruption under the NPP, Mr. Gyamfi warned that attacks on state offices might inadvertently aid these officials. “There are many NPP supporters who want to destroy evidence of their wrongdoings and criminal conduct. Don’t give them a smooth excuse to do that,” he cautioned.
In light of these concerns, he called on NDC supporters to remain calm and celebrate their purported victory peacefully. “Please, we beg you,” he added.
This plea follows reports of some NDC supporters invading state offices, including the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in Ayawaso East Municipality and the Metro Mass Transport Limited yard in Kaneshie. Others have besieged collation centres, demanding prompt declarations of parliamentary results.
The Electoral Commission is expected to announce the official election results by the end of the day on December 9.
