Dismissed Ghana Gas Staff Decry Unfair Treatment, Accuse Management of Partisan Bias

A group of former employees of Ghana Gas has spoken out against what they describe as unjust and politically driven dismissals, claiming they were abruptly laid off despite years of dedicated service to the state-owned company.

In interviews granted on condition of anonymity, the dismissed workers told Myjoyonline that they received termination letters signed by the company’s CEO, stating that their services were no longer required. The workers, however, believe the move was not only unfair but also politically orchestrated to clear the way for partisan replacements.

“I received a letter informing me that my employment had been terminated and that I would receive a month’s salary in lieu of notice. No reason was given beyond that,” one former staff member said, visibly emotional.

The affected employees accused Ghana Gas of engaging in partisan hiring and firing practices, alleging that new recruits have been brought in to fill the very roles they were removed from—a development they say suggests deliberate political cleansing.

“You can’t tell us there’s no work or resources to keep us but then bring in new people to do what we were already doing. That’s not downsizing—that’s political replacement,” one said.

The workers argue that the dismissals lacked transparency, due process, and fairness, noting that no prior engagement was held to explain the rationale behind their removal.

The former staff members are now calling on labour unions, the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, and Parliament’s Select Committee on Labour to intervene.

“This is not just about our jobs. It’s about the future of state institutions. If politics is allowed to dictate hiring and firing, we lose professionalism and morale,” another dismissed worker added.

They are urging the government to investigate the circumstances surrounding their dismissal and to sanction any abuse of authority if found.

A sample of the termination letter issued to affected staff reads:
