Daniel Botwe Honoured as Nkosuohene of Akuapem

Outgoing Member of Parliament (MP) for Okere, Daniel Kwaku Botwe, has been conferred the prestigious title of Nkosuohene (Development Chief) of Akuapem in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the development and progress of the Akuapem Traditional Area.

The honour was bestowed during the annual Odwira durbar of the Akuapem Nifa division at Adukrom, a ceremony graced by chiefs, dignitaries, and citizens of the area.

Osuodumgya Otutu Ababio, Akuapem Nifahene and Chief of Adukrom, speaking on behalf of Oseadeyo Kwasi Akuffo, the Okuapehene, praised Mr. Botwe for his unwavering dedication and selfless service.

“The whole of Akuapem is impressed with your hard work and selfless service to Ghana,” Otutu Ababio declared, emphasising the immense contributions Mr. Botwe has made to the development of Okere and the entire Akuapem area.

The title is seen as a strategic move by the Akuapem Traditional Area to harness Mr. Botwe’s vast experience in politics, development, and community mobilisation as he retires from Parliament in January 2025.

Daniel Botwe bows out of Parliament after 16 years of stellar representation for Okere. A former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Minister of State, he is celebrated as one of the architects of Ghanaian politics, with roots tracing back to his activism as a student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

Mr. Botwe’s tenure is marked by significant achievements, including his pivotal role as Minister for Regional Reorganisation and Development, where he led the successful creation of six new regions during the first term of the Akufo-Addo administration.

Expressing gratitude for the unexpected recognition, Mr. Botwe said, “I remain your MP for the next 10 days,” and promised to continue supporting the development of Okere and Akuapem in any capacity.

He pledged to work closely with the Okere MP-elect, Daniel Nana Addo-Kenneth, to ensure a seamless transition and sustained development for the constituency.

The ceremony was attended by key figures, including Oseadeyo Kwasi Akuffo, the Okuapehene; Otubuor Djan Kwasi, Akuapem Adontenhene and Chief of Aburi; and Mr. BDK Adu, a former MP for the area.

As the Akuapem Traditional Area honours a man widely regarded as the “Generalissimo of Ghanaian politics,” the event symbolises a collective acknowledgement of integrity, humility, and a legacy of public service.
