The statue of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at Sekondi’s Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital has been repaired following visible damage that sparked widespread speculation.
The monument, unveiled on November 6, 2024, developed a hole at the back of one leg, leading to mixed theories about its cause. While some residents believe it was vandalism, others suspect design or material flaws.
On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, a repair team of two men and a woman conducted restoration work, with a police officer providing security at the site. By evening, the statue was fully repaired.
The statue has drawn contrasting views from residents. Supporters see it as a tribute to President Akufo-Addo’s contributions, while critics question its necessity amidst pressing needs in healthcare and local development.
The damage and subsequent restoration have reignited debates about priorities in resource allocation, with many residents advocating for improved infrastructure over symbolic monuments.
As the repaired statue stands tall once more, it remains a focal point of contention in Sekondi, symbolising both honour and the complexities of balancing leadership recognition with community needs.
