Agona West MP and independent candidate Cynthia Morrison has shed light on a heated incident during her campaign on Sunday, October 27, where tensions flared between her supporters and those of Agona West NPP parliamentary candidate Chris Arthur.
The clash, which resulted in four injuries—including two gunshot wounds—has raised concerns of political violence in the constituency.
Appearing on TV3’s New Day on October 28, Morrison denied that the incident constituted an assassination attempt against her despite reports to the contrary.
She recounted how, during her campaign event, a convoy branded with Chris Arthur’s image unexpectedly passed through her gathering. Morrison explained that while her focus was on her supporters, police urged her to move into her vehicle due to safety concerns.
“I didn’t hear any gunshots because I was sitting by the window,” Morrison explained, adding that she was only informed of the shots after the police intervened and moved her from the scene.
Following the clash, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, leader of the NPP caucus in Parliament, called Morrison, alleging that her security personnel had shot the NPP’s Agona West Nasara Coordinator, Haruna Rashid.
Morrison sharply refuted the accusation, suggesting that Afenyo-Markin should consult police findings rather than rely on unverified reports.
“He asked if it was my security man who shot the Nasara Coordinator. I told him to get his facts from the police before making accusations,” Morrison stated, adding that their conversation escalated into a heated argument.
The police are actively investigating the incident, which resulted in four injuries, as the constituency’s political atmosphere remains tense ahead of the upcoming election.
