Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has lauded the recently launched CitizenApp for eliminating the need for intermediaries, popularly known as ‘goro boys,’ in accessing public services.
Speaking at the launch of the Ghana Digital Economy Policy on November 28 in Accra, the minister highlighted the app’s role in making public services more accessible, efficient, and transparent.
CitizenApp, integrated into the Ghana.gov platform, enables citizens to access a range of government services directly from their smartphones, eliminating the reliance on middlemen.
“The portal has been expanded to include CitizenApp, a mobile platform that will enable users to access public services on their smart mobile devices in the comfort of their homes and offices. No more ‘goro boys,’” she stated.
The Ghana.gov platform, a unified e-government portal, now offers expanded services, allowing citizens to engage with government agencies seamlessly.
Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful emphasised that this initiative, along with the new digital economy policy, seeks to consolidate Ghana’s digital transformation efforts while enhancing service delivery and transparency.
“Ghana’s digital agenda aims to ensure equal access to broadband internet connectivity throughout the country. We have implemented policies to ensure every communication user has access to public and private digital services regardless of their service provider,” she said.
The minister described the Ghana Digital Economy Policy as a cornerstone of the country’s digital transformation journey.
While acknowledging the progress made through earlier initiatives, she noted the policy’s importance in consolidating achievements and charting a path forward.
“This digital economy policy is therefore not just timely but essential in addressing the new realities of the digital transformation we are pursuing,” she remarked.
Owusu-Ekuful also commended former President John Agyekum Kufuor, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for their pivotal roles in driving Ghana’s digital transformation.
The new policy, alongside technological advancements like CitizenApp, reinforces Ghana’s commitment to building a transparent, inclusive, and efficient digital economy.
