Chief blasts government over galamsey crisis in Wasa East

The Chief of Daboase, Nana Yaw Ofori Panin, has expressed his deep disappointment in the government for its handling of the illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey, in the Wasa East Constituency of the Western Region.

Speaking on the Hot Morning Drive, hosted by Don Kwabena Prah Jr, the Chief highlighted the devastating impact of galamsey on water bodies and forest reserves in the area, emphasising how these illegal activities have severely affected communities within Wasa.

Nana Yaw Ofori Panin placed blame on the government for failing to effectively combat the rise of galamsey in the region.

He further noted that the challenge is compounded by the involvement of some prominent individuals within the community who support these illegal mining operations, making it difficult for him to tackle the issue alone.

The Chief called on both the government and the people of Wasa to unite and work together in the fight against galamsey, stressing the need for collective action to protect the environment and safeguard the future of the community.
