Businessman and philanthropist Emmanuel Aboagye, popularly known as Aboagye Contractor, has donated GH₵500,000 to support traders affected by the recent fire outbreak at the Central Business District in Kumasi, Ashanti Region.

The devastating fire, which occurred on March 21, left traders counting heavy losses as their shops and goods were consumed by the flames.

During a visit to the affected area, Aboagye Contractor offered words of encouragement to the victims before presenting the donation to the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene.

Expressing his sympathy, Aboagye Contractor commended the minister and President Nana Akufo-Addo for their swift response to the disaster.

“I would first like to thank the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, and God for giving us a humble and hard-working minister who cares about the less privileged, particularly the victims of the Adum Railway Market fire,” he remarked.

Aboagye Contractor, who hails from Kumasi, mentioned that his charity foundation, run with his wife, has always supported the less privileged. He said he did not hesitate when approached by the regional minister for support, seeing it as a collective responsibility.

He also called on the business community to rally behind the victims and provide financial and psychological assistance to help them recover.

“I further call on the business community to come on board and support our struggling sisters and brothers. Your presence will strengthen them during this critical moment,” he added.

Dr Frank Amoakohene, who accepted the donation on behalf of the victims, expressed gratitude for the timely support.

“Our brother, Aboagye Contractor, came to my office and made a donation of GH₵500,000. I told him to come here personally to offer some words of encouragement to the victims,” Dr Amoakohene said.

He assured traders that the government would provide the necessary support to help them rebuild their businesses. However, he noted that reconstruction efforts would commence upon the return of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who is currently out of the country.

The generous donation from Aboagye Contractor is expected to alleviate some of the burdens faced by the affected traders as they work to rebuild their livelihoods.
