A two-week-old baby allegedly sold for GHC300 in Nkotompo, a community within Sekondi-Takoradi, was discovered early Monday morning in an unusual twist, left at the doorstep of the mother’s home.
The child’s aunt, Maame Esi, recounted to Connect FM’s Omanbapa Morning Show that she received an urgent alert around 2:00 a.m. about a baby found outside her sister’s home.
“I was asleep when someone alerted me that a baby had been abandoned on my sister’s doorstep. When I got there, I realised it was the baby who had gone missing. We don’t know who returned the child, but we’ve lodged a complaint with the police,” Maame Esi recounted.
The Western Region Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) confirmed the baby is in good health, wrapped in cloth, as they began their investigation.
Emmanuel Bans, the Nkotompo Electoral Area unit committee chairman, revealed the baby had been left alongside a bag containing baby food and a cryptic note.
“The note’s contents are with the police as they investigate who might have left the baby,” he stated.
Two suspects, Mena Efuwa, the baby’s mother, and a woman named Aisha, have been detained by authorities.
Allegations claim they sold the baby to an unknown individual. Initially, Efuwa reportedly stated she received GHC300 from Aisha. However, further enquiries led her to admit to receiving GHC3,000, while Aisha allegedly confessed to receiving GHC15,000.
Details of the note in the bag, described as “interesting” by sources close to the investigation, are expected to shed light on the mystery surrounding the baby’s sudden return.
